Huawei Nova 4 Special Features

Remember the Huawei teaser from last Monday with a shooting star in the upper left corner? The company cleared any confusion today, relaunching the same teaser, but with a camera instead of a light dot, revealing this will be the Huawei nova 4, and it will arrive on December 17.

The phone was already spotted in the wild in a pre-production case with its unusual selfie camera in the upper left corner. Given Samsung is yet to announce a launch date for the Galaxy A8s, Huawei looks set to become the first company to introduce a phone with the unusual solution.

Huawei nova 3 arrived in July with a Kirin 970 chipset, while the nova 2s sported a Kirin 960 platform. This leads to the assumption the new device will have the latest SoC – Kirin 980, because if it sticks to the midranger Kirin 710, it might be as powerful as the affordable nova 3i, and that would be an utter disappointment.

Huawei has started teasing an unusual solution to the camera notch problem: a phone with a circular cutout in the display. Apparently, the Huawei Nova 4 (the company’s first phone to feature the hole-punch camera) has already been spotted in person during a live stream for the 18th birthday of Chinese singer Jackson Yee, according to a report from WinFuture.

While there isn’t much information about the Nova 4, there does seem to clearly be a camera cutout in the screen. And honestly, it doesn’t look that bad. Sure, having an omnipresent black dot in the corner of the screen might take some getting used to, but likely no more than a notch would.

Huawei isn’t the only company pursuing a hole-punch camera, either: Samsung confirmed earlier this month that it was working on a similar “Infinity-O”-style display for future Galaxy phones.

In either case, we likely won’t have long to wait for more information on the Nova 4. Huawei has already confirmed to The Verge that it will have more news on December 3rd.

Motorola is expected to launch its Moto G7 lineup of smartphones sometime next year. However, its Moto G7 Play has already been spotted on the US telecommunications certification website, FCC. The FCC listing reveals key specifications and design elements. Moto G7 Play is expected to be the cheapest variant of the Moto G7 lineup. The listing was first spotted and reported on by Droidlife.

Moto G7 Play is listed as model number XT1952 and is showcased in two colour options, Black and Light Blue. According to the listing, Moto G7 Play will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor paired with Adreno 506 GPU.

It will come with a single rear camera unit, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C port and a separate microSD card slot.

The fingerprint sensor might be integrated into the Motorola logo on the back in a similar fashion to Motorola One Power. The only disappointing feature is its 2,820mAh battery, which compared to Moto G6 Play’s 4,000mAh battery seems a big downgrade.

The manual uploaded on FCC’s website also shows a notched display, which will house the front camera, front flash and earpiece.

According to an earlier report by PhoneArena, the company is expected to launch the Moto G7 series globally in Q1 2019. However, Motorola is yet to say anything on this matter.

The Moto G7 series is expected to include the Moto G7, Moto G7 Play, Moto G7 Plus and Moto G7 Power.

Rumored Motorola Moto G7 Power Specifications

We have been given evidence that the Moto G7 Power, code-named “ocean,” is based on the “msm8953” platform by Qualcomm. The msm8953 typically denotes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625, but our source has clarified that the device is, in fact, running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 platform with the Adreno 506 GPU. (We should note that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450, 625, 626, and 632 are pin and software compatible, which is why a device may show “msm8953” in a benchmark for all 4 of these mobile platforms.) The use of the Snapdragon 632 matches the information that has surfaced recently for the Moto G7 Play. The Snapdragon 632 is built on a FinFET 14nm process and introduces Kryo 250 semi-custom CPU cores with four Cortex-A73 performance cores and four Cortex-A53 efficiency cores. We were given information that the device will come in 2, 3, and 4 GB RAM versions, and that there will be 32 or 64GB storage models. We don’t know how the RAM and storage models will be combined, however.

The device has a single rear-facing 12MP f/2.0 sensor and a single front-facing 8MP f/2.2 sensor. We’re told that some of the device’s camera features include the new Cinemagraph mode from the Moto Z3 Play, spot coloring, and the ability to take bokeh shots with the single rear camera. The device is running Android 9 Pie out of the box, though it’s not going to be an Android One device.

As for the display, our source isn’t entirely sure of the exact specification. We were told to expect a 6.22-inch HD+ notched display, which is close to the dimensions shown in the schematics shown above when accounting for the bottom bezel. The colors we should expect include Indigo, Silver, “Blush,” and Black. We don’t know if all colors will be available at launch, however.
